Airlines drop prices for year-end Japan flights

For once, there’s some good news for air travelers heading to and from Japan, as it appears airlines are acting in unison in setting their holiday-season ticket prices substantially lower than last year.
According to the Nikkei Shimbun newspaper, round-trip flights to Europe, for example, are clocking in at up to 40 percent lower than 2010.

Air Asia to offer ¥5,000 flights from Tokyo to Kuala Lumpur

Japan is finally opening up to budget airlines this December with Air Asia announcing its long-haul arm Air Asia X will offer a ¥5,000 ($ 58) route between Tokyo and Kuala Lumpur.
Japan’s air industry seems to be going through a bit of a well-needed shake-up since the bankruptcy of one of the two national carriers, JAL. Until now it seemed government rules, considerable airport usage fees and limited landing spots had cornered the market for JAL and Air Nippon Airways (ANA), Japan’s other national carrier.
